Another thing she could recall was this guy standing next to her bed in the hospital. He looked like the ‘Angels of Death’ to her at this moment, very tall, impressing, very goodlooking, something scary on him but still giving her a great feeling of comfort, then she again was drifting away into darkness.
‘Trish? Trish, wake up! Come on, I know you can hear me!’ This voice sounded familiar and made Trisha feel comfortable. She wanted to open her eyes to see who was talking to her but it was so hard. ‘Trish?! Sweethear, come on, I know its hard but you have to open your eyes now!’ She felt a soft touching and careessing movement down her cheeks. She again tried to open her eyes. This time it worked. Fortunate, the light was turned down to a none hurting level for her eyes. Where was she? This smell, it was so familiar and still so hated.
‘Trish?’ She slowly turned her head to the direction the voice came from. ‘Duncan? What happened? What are you doing here?’ Her voice sounded like sandpaper. ‘You had a car accident. It’s a wonder you survived, looking at your car and your fractures!’ Now Trisha remembered, this big black Pick Up, the sound of brakes, her getting thrown around, hitting her head, then darkness.
‘Duncan, why are you here? How did you know?’ She asked again. ‘Joe asked me to check on you as he knew I was close to LA. He had left several messages and as you didn’t reply on any of it he started to worry. And that’s how I found out about your accident.’
‘What date is today?’
Duncan passed Trish a glass of water, as her voice nearly failed. ‘Its February 3rd.’ Damn, so much about her new job. Now she could forget about it. She guessed that no company would give her a second chance if you simply didn’t show up to your appointment without telling them why as she assumed that nobody has informed them.
Trish fell back into the pillow and closed her eyes.
‘Trish?’ No reaction.
‘Trish?’ Duncan asked again with concern in his voice. She opened her eyes again and looked at her dearest friend. Why haven’t we gotten a couple again she wondered. Adam, right, now she remembered, she loved them both in their own special way and couldn’t decide who she loved more and she didn’t want to be the reason for a broken friendship. But that’s a different story.
‘Duncan, do you know , aehm, have you heard anything from the Splitterfon Ltd.?’
‘No, why?’
‘I was on my way to my job interview when the accident happened.’ ‘Oh then I guess you can forget about this job. I am really sorry.’
‘Damn!’ Trisha closed her eyes again. She didn’t wanted Duncan to see her tears.
‘Hey, you can be glad to be still alive, not having taken any serious damage and keeping any big scars.’
Trish knew he was right but still, such an opportunity like that didn’t come often. ‘I know, but it was my dreamjob. I mean they are very picky about their employees and if you get an invitation, you simply let drop everything your doing and go there. I mean, you know it, it’s the reason why I moved to Los Angeles. And now this, just because of this bloody incapable driver!’ Now Trisha couldn’t hold back her tears anymore.
Duncan didn’t know how he was supposed to react. He wished he could take her into his arms but with all this hospital facility surrounding Trish it was quiet hard.
He knew exactly how important this job was to her. She was talking about it since she heard about them which was for about 2 years by now. It hurted him to see his sweetheart like this. He wished he could do anything for her.
‘Duncan, by the way, what happened to the other driver? And was anybody else hurt? Hows Paris? Have you heard anything from Adam? Oh, and can you please give my plants some water, if they are not dryed out yet? And Duncan, when you come visiting me the next time, can you bring me the unimployement newspaper? Thanks.’
This woman was amazing. He shock his head. Trisha has had an accident, lost her dreamjob and now she was already starting to make new plans. No wonder he loved her. Maybe he could manage to arrange a second chance for her. He answered all her questions and soon after he left. She needed to rest.
