The Party
‘Hi my dear. It is so nice to finally meet you. John said that Chris finally has met a girl he loves, but he never said anything to us. Please come in, feel at home and enjoy the party. ‘We will have all night long to get to know you’, Chris mom was smiling at her. ‘I am glad to finally meet you as well. It was a bit a rough time for me as I started a new job and Chris was busy with his Studies and well, but enough of excuses. We finally made it and I think that is what counts.’ Saying that, she grapped Chris’s arm and they entered the house. ‘So far so good’, she said. Chris nodded. ‘The first impression is made and we are still alive. I think my parents like you.’ ‘Well, just hope not to much, I mean, we are going to sort of break up tonight, so I don’t want them to be too angry or hurted.’ ‘Don’t worry about it. It wont be the last time I guess.’ They entered the big hall. ‘Where is your brother?’ Trish asked, looking around nervously. ‘I havent seen him yet. So lets check out where we are going to sit. And I am curious to see who we are sharing our table as well.’ They started to walk around searching for their table. On their search they got stopped by family friends and all of them of course were curious to meet Chris ‘girlfriend’. Finally they spotted Marie who was already sitting at the table with her boyfriend Marc. She waved them over and they had an excuse to escape this old aunt of Chris who must have been dead by now but somehow still survived and asked them quit personal questions about their love live.
‘Uff, I am already completely exhausted.’ Chris meant. ‘Not only you my dear, I didn’t know that anybody can have such a huge family.’ Trish replied. Marie and Marc laughed at them. ‘You know, you are the first girlfriend Chris has ever brought with him. So you can understand that this is rather a sensation and everybody wants to have the gossip out of first hand instead of having to listen to it from somebody else.’ Marie passed each of them a glass filled with champaign. They took a sip and looked at each other. ‘Marie, what about John, won’t he be here tonight?’ ‘He should be here, I mean, its his party sort of. He has invited quiet a lot of his business friends. Oh, speaking of him, there he is’, Marie pointed out a guy at the other end of the dining hall. Chris and Trish looked in the given direction. ‘Aehm, which one?’ Trish asked again. ‘This tall good looking lad who is coming in our direction’, Marie said. Trish felt how her hands started to get wet and her throat dry. She took another sip of the champaign and looked at Chris. He as well seemed to be a bit whiter than he was before. They looked at each other now, sort of encouraging each other for the show they had to play in a short time.
