The Mistake
John drove home. He had never had such a call from his dad before. There must
have happen something really bad when he called him at work. Can then these
things never stop, he wondered. First last evening with this girl. That she
had to appear at his party together with Chris was quiet shocking for him.
Did she know it? Was it her way of paying it back to him? He had done what was
possible to make it up for her. And now she was the girlfriend of his brother.
And then he had to catch her kissing this Mike, who he actually never had liked.
How could she betray him like that, well he meant, how could she betray his
brother like that! His mind simply clicked out.
He was so angry at Trish that it never crossed his mind that he could actually
be wrong. And then her eyes, looking at him so hurted of him accusing her with
all he had said to her. How could anybody have such an innocent look though
still be so false? Then she started to deny everything and called him a liar.
This made him even more angry. So angry he never was before. And her lips. So
inviting him to kiss her. He did not know what came over him in this moment.
He simply had to kiss her. Afterwards he knew it was a mistake. He had never
taken advantage of a woman before. But this girl. Well he knew that actually
she was not a girl anymore, but to him she was. End of discussion, she was
wrong, he was right. So why could he not stop thinking of her? He had payed
enough for his mistake. As man in charge now for his family, he had to keep it
together, may it cost whatever it would take. She was a betrayer, lied to his
brother, lied to him, she was the enemie. Well, ok not the enemie but she tried
to break up his family. At least he saw it this way.
‘Dad, what is wrong, anybody hurt?’ John said when he was entering the living
room. Then he realised that his whole family was there looking at him as if he
would have just killed somebody. ‘John, Chris and you have some open issues
than cannot wait to be solved. We leave you two alone now and we strongly hope
that you will find a solution for it.’ The four of them left the room. John
looked at Chris, Chris looked at John.
‘So, where is your little girlfriend from last night? Have you two finally
broken up?’ John said. ‘She never was my girlfriend’, Chris said, ‘she never
was and never will be. She is just a friend of mine.’ John looked at Chris not
understanding what he just had said. ‘Parden?’ ‘I said that Trisha never was
and will be my girlfriend. No girl will ever be my girlfriend John, I am gay.’
John kept on looking at Chris as if he just had seen a ghost. ‘Parden?’ he
repeated. ‘You understood me quiet well. I asked Trisha pretending to be my
girlfriend because I thought my family would not accept me of being gay. But
after what has happen last night I had to decide either to loose a really good
friend or my family. And you know what, I decided for my friend. I am not
taking it anymore you pushing me around, giving me the feeling of not being
good enough for this family!’ Chris now threw everything he always wanted to
say at Johns head, but the only thing John was able of thinking of was that
Trisha was not the girlfriend of Chris. John had heard enough. Without any
further word he left a perplex Chris behind him. Now it started to get clearer
to him. It was all a game she was playing. She wanted to payback him for what
he had done to her. But did he not resolve it for her? And that she had get
together with this Mike, impossible. But she would feel now how it would be to
measure with a Griffin. Did he not tell her so?
