Saved by the Bell
The doorbell rang. John let go of her as caught doing something forbidden. Trisha awoke from her paraliseness and headed for the door. She knew she must look horrible but she didn’t care. John was following her. Trisha opened the door, Chris was waiting outside. ‘Trish, finally!’ he said, then he saw John. ‘What are you doing here’, he said looking at his brother suspiciously. ‘We will talk another time’, John said in an business like tone, took his coat and dissapeared into the night.
Chris entered the flat. ‘What did he want?’ he asked. Then he saw Trishas red eyes. ‘Did he insult you again? Did he hurt you?’ Chris asked scared. Trisha shook her head. ‘No, not this time’, she replied. ‘Coffee?’ she asked. ‘Yes please, what did John want?’ He helped her in the kitchen. ‘Look, I dont know what he wanted and I dont want to talk about it either,’ Trish answered, then both entered the living room and placed them on the couch. How different they are after all, Trisha thought. ‘And?’ ‘And what?’ Trish contered. She had enough of always explaining what was going on. And it was his fault anyway, so he should be the one to go first. ‘Ok, I talked to my family and explaned everything. I told them everything, even that I am gay, and you know what?’ ‘No.’ ‘They said that they already expected it anyway. So I was worrying for nothing.’ Great, Trisha thought, all the trouble for nothing! ‘Aha’, was the only comment she made on that. Chris looked at her. ‘Where have you been the last few days? I tried to reach you, called you but no sight of you. I was really worried!’ ‘I’ve been up to San Francisco meeting with my family and my friend.’ ‘Look Trish, I am really so sorry for what happen. If I had known it would end like this I would never have asked you for such a favour. I don’t know how I should ever make it up to you.’ Trisha saw how devastaded Chris was and again she started to feel sorry for him.
‘Look Chris, I know it was not your fault and that you did not plan this to happen. I mean, nobody wished this to happen but it did. No reason to try to change it now, lets see what we can make best out of it, and is it only that you do not have to hide yourself anymore.’ ‘Yes, you are right, but on what costs this had to be I am really not proud of. Let me please at least try to repay it in any sort of way.’ ‘As it seems that I cannot change that either, ok. I let surprise myself.’ Now the old sparkling in Chris eyes came back. They sat there and remained silent. After a while Trisha said that she was tired and she wanted to go to bed. Chris jumped up, took his coat, huged Trish and left.
