England June 7 until 18
Let the Journey Start
Early in the morning we had to get up after I got hold up in the Internet until
around 1:00 o'clock. Ok, I admit, it was my fault but hey, you can't leave dear
friends all by themself.
So at 4:30h I stood up, seeing that my friend was already rushing through the flat,
checking if everything was prepared for being alone for the next two weeks and
putting our luggage into our car. Pretty sleepy I followed her and placed myself
on the rear seats of the car and went to sleep for a bit more. My friend took over
the first bit of driving. Goal was Stuttart, where we were going to pick up our
friend from Germany. Most through this time I slept and by 6:30h we stopped at a
gas station for a break and had some coffee and a small breakfast.
Right on time without once getting lost (!!!) we drove up in front of the trainstation
in Stuttart. We haven't been out of the car when our friend we have never met in
real life before run up to us and gave us a big hug. After reorganised our luggage
situation we headed for a second cup of coffee and chatted along. After a while we
decided that it's time to leave, as we had to reach our target Zeebrugge where we
were supposed to take the ferry to Hull.
Finally on the Ferry, we headed for the bar and the lovely view of the harbor and
started playing Uno like crazy. A view drinks later, we decided to go to sleep
as there was not really much going on.
Next day without too much delay we arrived in Hull and began to load my car again.
Then we took off to York. Actually driving on the left side isn't as hard or
complicated as I thought.
As we arrived in Hull we were of course on the wrong side of town, so finding our
B&B ended in a little sighteseeing tour through this city. But we found it.
After we unpacked and decided to stay one more night, we left for Scarborough where
we visited their castle and afterwards visited Whitby
and as well the Robin Hood Bay on our way back.
Next day we explored York and there Coffee Shop facilities. Otherwise we didn't do
a lot. But you will see a wee bit more on the pictures taken.
On Thursday, June 10 we took off by driving through Leeds, where we did not stop as it did
not really look inviting to stay and headed for Manchester. This town reminded me
strongly of Glasgow. Cannot really say why but I felt quiet confortable there.
After a shopping tour we drove to Liverpool where we had our evening bier. Unfortunately
we did not stay there too long either, as we had to be in our B&B at 7 and we had
no clue where it was.. as usual. On the other side all shops where closing down
so whe could not do much anyway.
As we finally reached Chester, we were so delighted about this lovely little
Bed an Breakfast, that as well here we spontaniously decided to stay one more night.
The next day we first went to an Aquarium Park where you could cuddle with Sharks
and other sea animals. But honestly, not really exciting. Then we headed for another
castle. Chirk Castle;
I don't know what got into us or why but it inspired us that much that we were finally
ending up in the garden, creating a whole fanfiction no a real person story or best
thing an all in one story. About two or three hours later we had to leave as it was
closing down and after a stop in a restaurant we went back to Chester.
Saturday, June 12 we went into Whales. First stop was another castle called
Bodelwyddan Castle.
But by far not as impressive or inspireing like Chirk Castle. I guess because it was
much more touristic orientated than the other one. After that we drove to
Llandludno and explored
a copper mine and enjoyed the lovely sea side for five minutes and then had to go south.
Whales a beautiful country as far as you can say that and is much more like Scotland
though my friend meant it remembered her more of New Zealand.
We tried to visit a celtic museum in Machynlleth as well but unfortunately we were too
late and just could have a peek into the shop. After another stop at the ocean we went
east again direction of Cheltenham. Unfortunately we took the wrong exit of the freeway
and had to be guided by the lovley owners of the B&B we stayed at.
On Sunday, June 13 our goal was London. To get there we drove through Bristol, stopped
over at Stonehenge (but I have to admit that I was quiet dissappointed of it. Somehow
I expected more but hey at least the weather was great) and then drove to London.
I never thought that I would drive through this town ever and least of all with my own car.
Now we had one urgent matter to resolve. Accommodation to find that was reasonable and a
save spot for my car. After driving around for well I guess one 1 hour we had both. I think
that this is quiet good especially as we were still down town.
The next couple of days we played the typical London Tourists, visited attractions like Madame
Tussots, London Tower, Big Ben, Oxford Street and and and as well went shopping, visited pubs
and met friends of one of us who lived there and had a blast. I guess everybody who knows
London can feel after us that it was not easy to leave this town again. But we had to. The
time to do so was on Thursday, June 17. We packed everything again in my car, which
by that time was quiet ehm complicated and headed north again through Cambridge to a tiny
littley place, cannot call it really town with those five houses approximately. Place was
called Barnby in the Willow. There we of course, as it was Soccer European Championship, had
to support Switzerland vs England. Very brave of us I have to admit but though we lost it was
quiet a good play and probably because we lost we are still alive too.
The next day, our last day, we had to drive back to Hull. Somehow the weather knew and it was
pouring cats and dogs all day long, so somehow it was ehm, no not true, could have stayed
longer anyway. Therefore, our visit to the Sherwood Forrest and our hope to find Robin Hood
had to be postponed to the next time. Hull again, the last chance for shopping what we did
as there was not really much else to do. Last detour to find the ferry (even my car did not want
to go back... ^^) we were on it again and had to say good bye Britain.
Ok, on our way back we stopped over with a little detour in Jagdtszell or how it is called and
visited for an hour a friend of ours and then we had to say goodbye to each other and left
our German friend at the trainstation before Switzerland had us back.
And that's about it. I admit it is not really saying much, but I guess in that case the pictures
will have to say it all. Its quiet hard to write about countryside and diving all the time.
But of course, if you have any questions or would like to know more.. the
Forum is the right
place.
Yours
Duena
