Still completely frozen (but at least I had a good coffee) we walked around this
little village. Shopping... YEAH! Hey, I am a woman, what do you expect! So
we wandered through the local market, bought there things bought here things
and fully loaded, we continued our journey to Palenque, a huge Mayan colonie.
And now... Ladies and Gentlemen. TOPES! Bumps or whatever you call them. I think
we counted over 140 (144 as I was told) on our way to Palenque. On this journey we
didnt do a lot but at least it got warmer again. Ui, and what a meal in the hotel...
huge and yummi.
Oh, no, wrong, how could I forget. We went visiting the Waterfalls and Lagunes of
"Agua Azul". Lovely, just too many military there.
So, back to the hotel. I decided, to stay up and watch the stars at night. At 11 pm they are going
to turn off all the lights in the hotel and then you were supposed to have a
great view. Ok, here is what really happened. First of all I fell asleep, second
when I woke up at midnight or so and got out of my room, the nightsky was covered
with clouds, so no view at all. Superb, lucky me. So I crawled back to bed and
hoped for a better day tomorrow.

Palenque - Campeche --> 386 Km
After a good breakfast again (I had the feeling I was more eating than doing
anything else) we went to Palenque, where a guide showed us around and we
got to know all the interesting details. Palenque is ehm was one of the biggest
residences of the Mayan and at what we looked at was just a small part of all
as there are still over 1000 houses, temples and ruins burried under mother
nature. So if anybody wants to dig.. here you go!
Now we are getting close to the end, just few more miles, still beautiful
countryside, and first time real contact with the Ocean. Golf of Mexico.
Unfortunately it was already late in the evening, the sun just went to sleep
when I put my big toe into the water. Lovely. And here, somewhere along the
road, we as well had dinner.
Finally in Campeche, we went shopping, speak getting some Don Pedro for our
driver :) and had a little siteseeing tour of this place. Tastet the smell of
ocean, I was really looking forward to be in Cancun and relax for a couple of
day, watch the beachboys and and and.

Campeche - Kabah - Uxmal - Merida --> 258 Km
So, one more stop before we reach Cancun, Merida. On the way we visited Kabah,
a pre location of Uxmal. There was a huge doorway/arche which by passing through,
no you don't travel to another world, but it was actually the beginning of the
road from Kabah to Uxmal. According to Erich von Daeniken
those guards you see on the third pictures are in fact Roboters, which would
mean, that they had a far more developed civilication and would maybe be prove
of alien life-forms.
Next Stop was Uxmal, a well
restored site with plenty of Pyramids for me to climb up and down. But as well
as in Palenque, one of the main was closed for restore and recovery.
In Merida we had our hotel right down town. I think I am not used to so many
people anymore after all these countryside, quietness and peace of nature I
was experiencing before. But then, hey, I am young, so lets go for a drink,
what we did.
Tuesday, December 23
Merida - Progreso - Merida --> 78 Km
BEACH, we are coming. The reason why we stayed in Merida for two nights was
because Cancun was booked out. Therefore, not much to see here either, we
went to Progreso and finally enjoy a day of sun, fun and nothing to do, even if
the weather still could be a bit better and warmer, it was acceptable and so
we placed ourself in front of the ocean, lay down and did nothing... until I had
this little acquaintance, on which I am not going into any closer here.
Hey, and I finally had access to a computer again, which of course I had to use
and tell my dear friend back home that I am fine (no mobile, no email nothing, I
am so proud of myself).
Wednesday (xmas), December 24
Merida - Chichen Itza - Cancun --> 366 Km
Today we are heading for our final destination. This all to well known Cancun.
I was really curious, but first we were stopping at our second last archeological
site alled Chicken Pizza, ehm Chichen Itza I mean.
92 Steps until the top, I counted them. And what I have to announce proud, I
made it nearly whithout any stops. I found my condition again.
On the other side somehow I didnt like it here all too much, maybe because there
where too many tourist? Sometimes, if you looked at te pyramid from the side or
far away it looked like 1000 of ants would be getting up and down. Annoying.
Cancun, as usual we arrived somewhen in the evening. Wow, what for hotels they
have here. One more beautiful than the one before. I was curious, in which one
we would stay. Alas we kept on driving and driving and let these all behind us,
until we stopped at a well, not that beautiful hotel. Oh was I disappointed but
then, well, hey, its just for sleeping. As I discovered a cockroach in my room
and the electrician demolitioned more than fixed, my mood sank quiet low. And to
top it all, the chinese restaurant had only open until 9pm (we called at around 8pm)
so that we had to eat in the hotel itself, at the all inclusive buffet. Welcome
to the Touristic Side of Mexico.
After having had dinner, we set us on our balcony (as we had the lower rooms, we
could go from one to one by balcony), drank from the all inclusive bar and
"celebrated" X-Mas. A few drinks later and a lot of talking, we decided to go
to bed. Next day would be our last trip.
Thursday, December 25
Cancun - Tulum - Cancun --> 279 Km
In the morning, we went to downtown Cancun, where I got some braids and our
friend had to buy himself a bathing trunks, as he had forgotten his at home.
Waiting for them I got the first bits of raindrops, which I tried hard to
ignore. Finally those 2 came back and so we could start the new day.
Our friend was hungry, so we reached Tulum quiet fast, just to figure out, that
even Subway celebrated X-Mas. Oh, how was he disappointed. So we started to
walk along the rim, took our last pictures, gazed at the ocean, beautiful.
After swimming in the carribian sea, enjoying the lovely weather and with a big
hole in our stomacks, we drove back to Cancun. He pulled over at the first
subway available, ignoring the fact that in Cancun it was raining. RAINING!!!!
Hopefully, tomorrow it will be sunny and warm again, I dont care. Eating lunch,
dinner or whatever night came and showed us Cancun by Night. Back in the hotel
we enjoyed a warm shower, rested, slept, watched TV, wrote the last postcards
and watched TV.
As last evening as well, we placed ourselfs on my balcony, played cards and
chit-chatting. Tomorrow.. yes tomorrow I would really do nothing.
Friday, December 26
Around Cancun --> 37Km
"It's raining drops, yes its raining drops" and its flodding everything. No sun,
no fun, just wet wet wet. So, what do you do, if you actually wanted to go swimming,
do nothing and just hang around? Right, go shopping. Fortunate, the sun decided
to show for a short while and so we went to this famous beach front and walked
along it. I mean, at least I have seen it. Much else we did not do this day
and so it passed by quiet unremarkably, my last vacation day.
Saturday, December 27
Cancun - Airport --> 30Km
Now it was time to say good bye. Not only to our dear friend but as well to the
beautiful weather.
At the airport, we left behind our friend, who had to drive his car back to Mex-City
and with a natural delay entered the plane, flying from Cancun to Mex-City, from
there after about 4/5 hours waiting time to Frankfurt and within 30 minutes to
Zurich.
Afther this torture, I was glad to finally embrasse my dear friend, which just
came back from her 2 months trip Australia and New Zealand.
And thats about it... 2'943 Km and many impressions richer.
